This novel, by the author of Zelda Darling, takes readers on a wild ride through San Francisco at the turn of the century.

Cherry Woods is one heck of a young woman. This teenager does not shy away from danger. Instead, she serves as a thorn in her mother’s big toe, stirs up dust storms of trouble around “The Paris of the West,” and hobnobs with some of the more notorious people showing up at ladies’ teas and high-society events.
As we get to know that Cherry is not your average teenager—even by today’s standards—the internationally famous racehorse, Oceans Away, dies surrounded by some very suspicious circumstances. Not one to let a good mystery go, Cherry pulls a cast of characters into her shenanigans while she digs around the city trying to find answers. Answers that are worth killing for to keep hidden.
My Favorite Thing About This Novel
I loved working on Oceans Away with Penny. It was a lot of fun to see how the story developed over time. Cherry Woods is a truly fun character, and the supporting characters are quite a blast as well. One of Penny’s greatest strengths in writing is creating characters you come to love – and don’t want to let go.
